One of the iconic symbols of PV is the Seahorse. The original sculpture is on Los Muertos beach in Zona Romántica, and its official title is "The Boy on the Seahorse." I would say that you can see the most amazing sunsets from there, but I'd be lying because you can see the most amazing sunsets from anywhere on the beach in PV. 🤣🌅
This is the OG Seahorse (I say OG because there is a replica on the boardwalk), and it is located almost at the end of Los Muertos beach. If you walk towards the center of town, you will get to the Pier, which is gorgeous, day or night.
A little bit past the pier is a very pretty hotel called Los Arcos. There's a few swimming pools, including an infinity pool, a stage, a dance floor, and a restaurant called Mi Pueblito. Take a look for yourself:
I like this place for several reasons.
One: the waiters are very friendly, and attentive, but also let me read my book in peace. (At this point I'm still reading Just Haven't Met You Yet, and you're probably wondering when I will finish it 😂...)
Two: the cosmos are good. (I know I'm in Mexico but I'm Polish! Love my vodka!!)
Three: fabulous people-watching.
Four: amazing sunset views.
Five: oh yeah, get ready for it: LA COMIDA. At Mi Pueblito is where I discover the "molcajete." Mmmmmhmmmmm.
The molcajete is the receptacle in which this dish is served; it's like a mortar (sans pestle) made from volcanic stone. Apparently, it's from the Aztec word for "seasoning." What's in the molcajete, you ask? You get your choice of beef, chicken, or shrimp. I'm not a big shrimp fan, and I eat chicken all the time at home (I joke that I can make chicken 365 ways), so my choice is always beef (flank steak, to be precise)! Then, grilled panela cheese! Because, who doesn't love cheese! Yum! Also, poblano peppers, and then, something I always see at the corner grocery store at home but never buy, nopales! It's cactus, and it's delicious! My mouth waters just thinking about all those flavors merged together. 🥰 I would have to say that beef molcajete is my favorite Mexican dish so far.
And of course, no dinner would be complete without a PV sunset.
And no evening would be complete with a post-sunset stroll down the Malecon. There's the Puerto Vallarta sign- and there's fewer people there on certain days. Ah! And there's the replica of The Boy on the Seahorse! Now you know!
Remember the first art sculpture? (See previous blog for details.) But wait, there's more!
It's a surfer on a wave. Right!? 😂
Well, today was blog post number five and those of you who know me, know that I can be a pretty linear thinker AND that I like patterns. So, if it's a repeating pattern of PLAYA COMIDA AMOR, and the fifth entry was COMIDA as per the pattern, then what do you think will next week's post be about!?!? I hope you are waiting on pins and needles... for... AMOR. 😍 (Because, you know, love!)
As I reflect back on 2023, I am filled with gratitude. Not just gratitude, but wonder and appreciation for this life. About a month ago, while in PV, I decided to write a letter to my younger self. What I wrote came from the heart, and the end result surprised me. I am sharing it with you all here. I encourage you all to write letters to your younger selves as well - what might yours say? Dear younger self, Welcome to your beautiful life! You were so brave to decide at 23 that you wanted to move to Paris! You did it, and you built a beautiful life there, making amazing memories that you will cherish forever. Don’t feel bad that mom didn’t come to visit you yet- you will show her Paris on a very special mother-daughter trip in 20 years. You love Paris and also love Stockholm. You will discover other parts of the world- on other continents- that will capture your heart as much as Europe did. You will go places. You’ll see new cities. You will meet people. You will try amazing food f...
Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Did you miss me!? I missed me! I missed you! And now we're back together, yay!! I swear, when I'm not traveling I feel like my soul is dying, like I can't get enough oxygen. And when I am traveling I'm in the moment, breathing, living, loving. So that's where I've been, and now I'm back home, and ready to share my adventures with you! Let's jump right in. Some of you know that I was supposed to participate in an energy retreat in Sedona in January. It got postponed, but of course my adventurous self decided that I was going to head out west anyway because the excitement had been working up over the previous 4-5 months and I just had to go. Instead of spending two whole weeks in Sedona like originally planned, I did re-work the itinerary somewhat. Are you familar with the Peter Lik photo that was taken at Upper Antelope Canyon? **Frantically googling Peter Lik** Well, photos of people (acquaintances) visiting that location kept mak...
Ever go through jury selection on Zoom? You log in, and then it's quiet. For hours. One lady asked, "Is there something going on behind the scenes, or are we just stuck here in Purgatory?" Good question. Merriam Webster defines "purgatory" as something along the lines of a state in which souls are made pure through suffering. Not an exact quote, but you get the idea. Is it quiet in Purgatory, do you think? Silence. Silence is funny. While waiting for countless hours in the virtual jury room (OK, they weren't countless, I counted them, there were 8 exactly) for something (anything!) to happen, it made me think of the work by Sartre Waiting for Godot . I read it during my Master's program at NYU. From what I remember, it's about these two guys, waiting. People come by and ask why they are waiting. For the bus? For a friend? For death? For a miracle? The entire play... they are just waiting. "Just" waiting. After the book was published, critic...
I’m starving now. Thanks LOL
